Vaccine SARS Cov 2 Origin
About Vaccine SARS Cov 2 Origin
The origin of SARS-CoV-2 remains debated. Two main hypotheses are natural zoonotic spillover from a bat through an intermediate host and a laboratory leak from the Wuhan Institute of Virology. The WHO China joint study in 2021 concluded that natural origin was most likely. However, US intelligence agencies have reached differing, low confidence conclusions. The debate has political dimensions, with US China relations affecting investigation access. Debate over a possible laboratory origin intensified from 2021, and the question remains unresolved. Regardless of origin, the rapid sequencing of the virus genome, published on January 10 to 11, 2020 by Zhang Yongzhen and colleagues and shared by Edward Holmes, enabled vaccine development. The genome was published openly, allowing scientists worldwide to begin vaccine design within days. The origin question matters for pandemic prevention but not for vaccine development.
