About COVID-19 Moderna

The Moderna COVID-19 vaccine was developed in collaboration with the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. Moderna, a Cambridge Massachusetts biotech company, designed the vaccine in two days after the virus genome was published. The vaccine uses mRNA technology similar to Pfizers. Moderna received an initial 483 million dollars from the US governments Operation Warp Speed to support development and manufacturing. The FDA granted emergency use authorization on December 18, 2020, one week after Pfizer. Clinical trials showed 94.1 percent efficacy. Modernas vaccine was easier to distribute as it did not require ultra cold storage like Pfizers initial formulation. Moderna had never brought a product to market before the COVID vaccine. The company was valued at over 100 billion at its peak.
