About Vaccine COVID Long COVID

Studies suggested that COVID vaccination reduced the risk of long COVID, with estimates ranging from modest to around half. Long COVID, also called post COVID condition, has been estimated to affect 10 to 20 percent of COVID patients with symptoms lasting months including fatigue, brain fog, and shortness of breath. Vaccinated individuals who still contracted COVID were less likely to develop long COVID than unvaccinated individuals. The mechanism is unclear but may involve reduced viral load or immune modulation. Some long COVID patients reported improvement in symptoms after vaccination, suggesting persistent viral antigen may drive symptoms. The long COVID burden represents one of the most significant public health impacts of the pandemic. Some public health authorities cited possible long COVID prevention as an additional benefit of vaccination.
