Digital vaccine records improve vaccination tracking and reduce missed opportunities. Immunization Information Systems IIS are confidential, computerized databases that record vaccination data. All 50 US states have IIS, but interoperability is limited. The EU Digital COVID Certificate, launched in 2021, was the largest digital vaccine verification system, used by dozens of countries. Israel led the world in digital vaccine records with its Green Pass system. India built its Co WIN platform on its existing electronic vaccine logistics network, eVIN, and used it to record billions of COVID vaccine doses. Low resource settings use mobile phone based systems including SMS reminders and QR code verification. Digital vaccine records enable recall and reminder messages, coverage monitoring, and AEFI tracking. Privacy concerns and digital literacy remain barriers in some settings. The WHO Smart Vaccination Certificate initiative aims to develop global standards for digital vaccine records.
