About Vaccine Confidence Project

The Vaccine Confidence Project at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, founded by Heidi Larson, monitors global vaccine confidence. The project has conducted surveys in well over 100 countries tracking attitudes toward vaccines. The VCP found that confidence varies dramatically by region and vaccine type. Some European countries, including France, have recorded some of the lowest confidence levels. Confidence in vaccines decreased in some countries during the COVID pandemic. The VCPs research identified early warning signs of declining confidence that can predict outbreaks. Social media analysis tracks misinformation spread. The VCP has influenced WHO policy and national immunization programs. The project demonstrated that vaccine confidence is not static but changes over time and requires continuous monitoring. Larson has written widely on vaccine rumours and trust.
