About Gavi The Vaccine Alliance
Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, was founded in 2000 to increase access to vaccines in the worlds poorest countries. Gavi combines resources from donor governments, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and private sector partners. Gavi has helped immunize over 760 million children, preventing over 13 million deaths. Gavi negotiates lower vaccine prices with manufacturers through pooled procurement. The International Finance Facility for Immunisation IFFIm issues vaccine bonds, frontloading future aid commitments. The Advance Market Commitment AMC for pneumococcal vaccines incentivized development of vaccines for developing countries. Gavi supports routine immunization, outbreak response, and vaccine introduction campaigns. Gavi co led COVAX, the global COVID vaccine facility, which operated from 2020 to 2023. Gavis model has been praised as one of the most effective public private partnerships in global health.
