HPV Scotland Success
About HPV Scotland Success
Scottish research has reported very low rates of cervical cancer among women vaccinated against HPV at age 12 to 13. Scotland achieved high HPV vaccination coverage in its school programme. Australia has similarly reported dramatic reductions in HPV infections and cervical precancerous lesions. Australia aims to eliminate cervical cancer, defined as fewer than 4 cases per 100,000 women, by 2035. The success of HPV vaccination in Scotland and Australia demonstrates the transformative potential of vaccination programs. The results also highlight disparities in HPV vaccine access globally, with many developing countries having low coverage. The WHO aims to achieve 90 percent HPV vaccination coverage globally by 2030.
