About Vaccine CEPI

The Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations CEPI was founded in 2017 in Davos, Switzerland, with initial funding from Norway, Germany, Japan, the Gates Foundation, and Wellcome Trust. CEPIs mission is to accelerate vaccine development for emerging infectious diseases. CEO Richard Hatchett, a former White House biodefense official, led the organization. CEPI was the first to fund COVID vaccine candidates including Moderna and CureVac. CEPI co founded COVAX with Gavi and WHO. CEPI has invested heavily in vaccine development for Lassa fever, Nipah, MERS, Rift Valley fever, Chikungunya, and Disease X. The 100 Days Mission, launched by CEPI in 2021, aims to develop vaccines against new pathogens within 100 days. CEPIs role in the COVID pandemic validated the concept of preparing vaccines before outbreaks occur.
